Top's Diesel Engine Exchange is owned and operated by Steven Grossman who has been building engines since 1995 when he blew up his first engine which was a 400 ci small block chevy that was in his 1968 Chevelle........... Then blew it up again, aaaaaaand maybe one more time. After 25 years of building discipline, and integrity in the Army and Army National Guard along with 16 years experience working for Caterpillar™ building engines up to 7,600 ft-lbs, he decided to build high quality, reliable Diesel pickup truck engines.
I'll never be this cool again!>>
Cat ™ 3516 burning some fuel on the dyno. Building these made me the man I am today. Confidence about my engine building skills was built in this room.
This pic speaks for itself. The numbers don't lie. These are the numbers from the engine pictured above. This was during the torque check. It actually made more horsepower during the horsepower pull.
Blew the 400ci small block out of her, then a 350 with some camel hump Fuely heads on it, then another 350. Went from a slip and slide powerglide to a Muncie four speed to a turbo 350! It was an expensive learning curve circa 1996.

This is a set of 6.4 pistons that have been delipped, fly cut and milled .010. Delipping the pistons on this particular engine, reduces the stress riser on the original design piston and helps prevent cracking and also lowers the compression a bit since the 6.4 has a tendency to run high boost pressures all the time. The fly cut is to make the 6.4 a zero interference engine. The valves can not kiss the pistons in the case of an overspeed. This particular engine we had to have the block decked, so we had the pistons milled .010 off the top to keep the piston height within Ford specificationsh
